Removing
  Caution
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to the cramped conditions:
t  Route all the various lines (e.g. for fuel, hydraulics, activated charcoal filter system, coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum) and electrical wiring in their original positions.
t  To avoid damage to lines, ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
  Note
t  The camshafts are mounted in the camshaft housing on this engine. Therefore, the camshaft housing can only be removed after first removing both toothed belts.
t  The camshaft housing sealing surface must not be reworked.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If so, obtain anti-theft coding.
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Remove air filter housing (engine code BCA) → Fig..
   
–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove cover from camshaft housing (engine codes BUD and CGGA).
–  First remove both toothed belts → Chapter.

–  Unscrew earth cable from camshaft housing -arrow-.
–  Remove oil filler neck → Chapter.
–  Remove ignition coils → Chapter.
–  Remove cable guide with wiring harness from camshaft housing.
–  Remove coolant breather line from camshaft housing.
–  Disconnect connector from Hall sender.
–  Remove securing bolt for toothed belt rear guard (near right-hand lifting eye).
–  Loosen camshaft housing bolts from outside to inside, alternately and diagonally and remove.
–  Carefully lift camshaft housing off.
