General notes on injection
t  If fuel system has been opened, it must be bled before engine is started → Chapter.
t  The engine control unit has a self-diagnosis capability. Before carrying out repairs and fault finding, read fault memory. Also the vacuum hoses and connections must be checked (unmetered air).
t  Fuel hoses in engine compartment must be secured only with spring-type clips. The use of clamp or screw-type clips is not permissible.
t  For trouble-free operation of electrical components, a voltage of at least 11.5 V is necessary.
t  Do not use sealants containing silicone. Particles of silicone drawn into the engine will not be burnt in the engine and damage the Lambda probe.
t  If, after fault finding, repairs or component tests, the engine starts, runs for a short period and then stops, then the fault may be that the immobilizer is blocking the engine control unit. In this case, the control unit must be adapted → Vehicle diagnostic tester„guided functions“.
t  Certain tests may lead to a fault being detected by the control unit and stored. Therefore after completing all checks and repairs the fault memory must be read and if necessary cleared.
t  The readiness code must be generated if the fault memory has been erased.
t  Vehicles are fitted with a crash fuel shut-off circuit. It reduces the danger of a fire in a crash as the fuel pump is switched off via the fuel pump relay. The system also improves the starting characteristics of the engine. When door is opened, the fuel pump is activated for 2 seconds to build up pressure in the fuel system.
