Checking exhaust system for leaks

Proceed as follows:

–	Start engine and run at idling speed.

–	Seal exhaust tailpipe briefly (e.g. hold cloth over end).

–	Check for leaks and listen for noise at connecting points (cylinder head/exhaust manifold, exhaust manifold/front exhaust pipe, etc.) with the assistance of a 2nd mechanic.

–	Rectify any leaks that are found.
