  Caution
Observe notes for battery terminal clamp bolt → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
  Note
After the battery has been connected and ignition is switched on, the ESP and TCS warning lamp -K155- will light up permanently. The warning lamp will go out automatically when the vehicle is driven at 15 to 20 km/h in a straight line. This has the effect of reactivating the steering angle sender -G85-.
  Caution
When batteries are disconnected and reconnected, the procedure described in the workshop manual must be strictly observed → Chapter.
The hose for central venting of the battery must not be kinked, blocked and / or damaged. The battery gases are hazardous to health and explosive. Route the hose carefully and, in doing so, ensure that the battery can vent towards the outside of the vehicle and not into the interior.
–  Fit battery positive wire clamp -2- to battery positive terminal and tighten securing bolt to specified torque → Chapter.

–  Fit battery earth wire clamp -1- to battery negative terminal and tighten securing bolt to specified torque → Chapter.
–  Carry out steps as detailed in the table.
Steps after connecting battery

ProcedurePerformed
Ignition with ignition key: switch on ignition and then switch off again. 
Read event memory: → Guided fault finding using VAS 5051A. 
Check time on clock and change as necessary. 
Open all electric windows fully and close again. 
Functional check: check all electrical consumers. 

Table can be printed out if necessary.
