Group:
87
Number:

Subject:
A/C refrigerant system discharging, and compliance with environmental laws
Model(s):
All models with A/C
all M.Y.
Several states and communities currently prohibit the discharging of ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons (CFC 's), including A/C
refrigerant Freon R-12 and Frigen R-12, into the environment.
In addition, the federal Clean Air Act prohibits discharging of CFC 's into the environment on a nationwide level, beginning January,
1992 (January, 1993 in certain instances).
To ensure that A/C system servicing is performed in accordance with these regulations, A/C refrigerant must only be discharged using an
Underwriter's Laboratory (UL) approved refrigerant recovery/recycling unit such as Kent-Moore ACR3, or equivalent.
WARNING
Automotive refrigerant containing CFC 's is hazardous to the earth's atmosphere. To protect our environment, use a refrigerant
recovery/recycling unit (even if not yet required by law in your area) whenever discharging an A/C system.
A/C refrigerant system, discharging
The following procedure supercedes all previous A/C discharging information.
WARNING
The A/C system should be serviced only by trained personnel familiar with:
^
equipment use
^
related safety procedures
^
regulations governing the discharging/handling/disposal of automotive refrigerants.
CAUTION
Always follow manufacturer's instructions when using a refrigerant recovery/recycling unit.
^
close both valves on A/C manifold gauge set
^
connect manifold gauge low pressure hose 1 to A/C low pressure service valve on vehicle
^
connect manifold gauge high pressure hose 3 to A/C high pressure service valve on vehicle
