Replace Fuel Hose and Clamps

Dear Volkswagen Retailer:

This is to inform you of the initiation of a recall campaign involving 1988-1992 model Volkswagen Golf and Jetta vehicles equipped with Digifant
Engine Management System. The vehicles affected are within the following vehicle identification number range:

Defect Description 
We have found that the fuel feed hose to the fuel distribution rail could settle more than the existing hose clamp can compensate for. This may
occasionally lead to fuel seepage at the hose connection.

Remedial Action 
Replace fuel feed hose and fuel hose clamps.

Customer Notification 
Volkswagen United States, Inc. will commence notification to known owners of affected vehicles on or about August 30, 1993. A sample copy of the
owner notification letter is enclosed for your information.

Vehicle Allocation 
Prior to owner notification we will furnish you with a computer printed list of vehicles containing names and addresses of owners residing within your
primary area of influence.

Note:
This listing includes owner names and addresses obtained from state motor vehicle registrations. Under the law of some states, including regulations set
forth by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, vehicle registration information may only be used for recall purposes. Use for any other reason
may constitute a violation of state law.

Limitation on Sale or Lease of Certain Vehicles

Section 154(d) of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966 mandates that retailers correct, prior to delivery for sale or lease, any
vehicle which fails to comply with an applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or which contains a defect which relates to motor vehicle
safety. It is therefore mandatory that any vehicle in your inventory and affected by this recall be corrected prior to sale or lease.

Parts Supply 
An initial supply of the new type hose clamps and fuel feed hose will automatically be allocated to you. Additional required parts must be ordered by you
from your parts depot. The parts are:

The time necessary to check and/or replace the fuel feed hose and fuel hose clamps is as follows:

California Emission Recall Requirements 
The California Air Resources Board and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) require that emission-related recalls be completed prior to the
vehicle registration renewal. It is, therefore, imperative that upon completion of this recall work you provide the owner with a signed "Vehicle Emission
Recall-Proof of Correction" certificate. This certificate (Order No. W-42-002-3050) will accompany the owner recall notification letter. The California
Department of Motor Vehicles requires that the size and color of this certificate is identical to the sample provided in this package. If you need additional
