Throttle Cable

Lightly tension the throttle cable until there is no free play in the cable. Turn the locknut nearest the throttle valve until it contacts the bracket,
making sure the throttle valve is still fully closed. Turn the locknut on the other side of the bracket until it contacts the bracket, then torque it to:

87 in.lbs. (10 Nm)

Auto Trans Kickdown Stop Position

Connect the hooked end of the kickdown cable to the transmission operating lever. With the accelerator pedal depressed to its kickdown position
(contacting the floor stop), push the transmission lever to its kickdown stop and turn the adjusting nut on the kickdown cable until there is no free
play in the cable.

Release and depress the accelerator pedal several times to check that the cable operates smoothly and that the operating lever rests against the
kickdown stop when the pedal is fully depressed.

Manual Transmission

With the accelerator pedal fully depressed, the throttle valve lever should barely reach the full-throttle stop on the housing, leaving a clearence of about:

0.04 in. (1 mm)

If full throttle forces the throttle valve lever against the stop, the stress on the cable will cause it to stretch and perhaps fail.

To adjust the throttle cable

Have a helper push the accelerator pedal down to its full-throttle position.

If the cable requires adjustment, remove the retaining clip and grommet from the bracket atop the cylinder head cover.
