Camshaft: Service and Repair

With the timing belt removed, avoid turning the camshaft or crankshaft. If movement is required, exercise extreme caution to avoid valve
damage caused by piston contact.

1. Remove timing belt.
2. Remove bearing caps 1, 3 and 5, then diagonally loosen caps 2 and 4.
3. Remove bearing caps 2 and 4, then the camshaft.
4. Install new camshaft with lobes for cylinder No. 1 facing upwards, then oil bearing surfaces.
5. Install bearing caps 2 and 4, noting offset and tighten to specifications diagonally.
6. Install bearing caps 1, 3 and 5. Locate bearing cap 5 by tapping lightly on end of camshaft.
7. Tighten bearing caps 1, 3 and 5 to specifications, then reinstall timing belt
