Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation
With A/C
On vehicles equipped with air conditioning the two speed electric cooling fan is controlled by the cooling fan control module. The coolant fan control
module uses a two stage coolant temperature sensor mounted in the radiator, an A/C refrigerant pressure switch and a second temperature switch
mounted in the coolant manifold. The fan speeds are chosen dependent on coolant temperature and refrigerant pressure when the A/C system is On.
Fan speeds will be, 1st (low) speed when engine coolant temperature is 198°-207°F, 2nd (high) speed when coolant temperature is 210°-221°F. The
fan will run at 1st (low) speed whenever the A/C is turned On and at 2nd (high) speed whenever refrigerant pressure rises above 232 psi regardless of
coolant temperature.
Without A/C
On vehicle with out air conditioning the two speed fan is controlled by a two stage temperature switch in the radiator.
Fan speeds will be, 1st (low) speed when engine coolant temperature is 198°-207°F, 2nd (high) speed when coolant temperature is 210°-221°F.
