Transmission Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

Transmission Input Speed Sensor and Clutch Oil Temperature Sensor

Short Description

Both sensors are combined into one component and can only be replaced together. They are coated with oil in transmission near the multi-plate clutch.
Before removing, the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) Mechatronic (J743) must be removed.

Often, the sensor wire is pulled on. This damages it. If the wire was pulled, the sensor must be replaced.

Removing

Remove the DSG Mechatronic unit. Refer to => [ Mechatronic Unit, Transmission Installed ] See: Manual Transmission/Transaxle/Gearshift

Do not pull on the wire!

Remove the bolt and carefully pry out the sensor using a screwdriver or pliers.

Installing

Only install the old sensor, if it is certain that:

‹› The sensor functions properly.

‹› The wire was not pulled on during removal.

If this is not the case, you should install a new sensor.

Install the sensor lubricated with DSG oil.

Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm.

Install the DSG Mechatronic unit. Refer to => [ Mechatronic Unit, Transmission Installed ] See: Manual Transmission/Transaxle/Gearshift

Do not pinch the wire when installing the Mechatronic unit!
