SERVICE ACTION CAMPAIGN PQ 1986/87 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA, GOLF

AND SCIROCCO 16 VALVE VEHICLES DISCONNECT OXS SENSOR LIGHT

Dear Volkswagen Dealer:
March, 1989
This is to inform you of the initiation of a recall campaign involving some 1986 and 1987- model Volkswagen Jetta, Golf and Scirocco vehicles
equipped with 16 valve engines.

The vehicles involved are within the following vehicle identification number ranges:

Jetta 16V

WVW__016_HW000001-WVW__016_HW907504

Golf 16V 1VW__017_HV00000-1VW__017_HV076400

Scirocco 16V

WVW__053_GK019978-WVW__053_HK030304

Defect Description Volkswagen has found that the affected vehicles were built with an OXS sensor light which automatically activates at 30,000 miles,
indicating to the driver that the OXS sensor should be replaced. Volkswagen's application for certification, however, does not contain a description of
such a light nor does it require the replacement of the sensor.

Remedial Action To ensure that the sensor warning light does not activate, the OXS sensor light must be disconnected.
Customer Notification Volkswagen United States, Inc. will inform all known owners of affected vehicles directly by first class mail on or about March
20, 1989. A copy of the owner notification letter is enclosed for your information.

Vehicle Allocation Information Prior to notifying owners, we will furnish you with a computer printed list of vehicles and the names and addresses of
owners residing within your service area. This list may be used to schedule your workload.

Inventory Vehicles Any vehicle in your inventory must be corrected prior to sale.

Parts Supply Not required.

Work Procedure See attachment.

Time Allowance The time necessary to disconnect the sensor light is 20 T.U.

Reimbursement See attached campaign data entry procedure.

Dealer Obligation It is important that you schedule appointments with your customers on a priority basis. Please provide a copy of this communication to
every person in your dealership with responsibilities for campaigns.

This letter is sent to you because we would like to correct a problem in the emission control system of certain 1986 and 1987 model Volkswagen
vehicles equipped with 16 valve engines. Our records show that your vehicle is one of the vehicles affected.
