Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection
Check the ignition control unit function by providing it with a simulated Hall generator signal. If the control unit does not respond correctly, it is
defective and should be replaced.
1.
With the ignition OFF, connect a multimeter to terminals 1 (-) and 15 (+) of the ignition coil. Do not disconnect harness wires.
TCI-H system:
2.
Disconnect the harness connector at the distributor.
3.
Connect a jumper wire to the center terminal of the harness plug.
4.
With the ignition ON, briefly ground the center terminal. Voltage should increase to at least 2 volts for about 1 - 2 seconds, then drop to 0 volts.
TCI-H with knock sensor:
2.
Disconnect the knock sensor control unit harness plug.
3.
Connect a jumper wire to terminal 12 of the harness plug.
4.
With the ignition ON, briefly ground the jumper wire. Voltage should increase to at least 2 VDC for about 1 - 2 seconds, then drop to 0 VDC.
Digifant II:
2.
Disconnect the injection control unit harness plug.
3.
Connect a jumper wire to terminal 25 of the harness plug.
4.
With the ignition ON, briefly ground the jumper wire. Voltage should increase to at least 2 VDC for about 1 - 2 seconds, then drop to 0 VDC.
