Beginning in August 1988, steering wheels with modified inner splines were introduced into production. Accurate adjustment of the steering wheel is
improved due to an increased number of splines on the new wheel.

The steering column is unchanged except for the addition of a short splined adapter sleeve pressed on to the splines of the steering column.

Beginning in January 1989, the short splined adapter sleeve was replaced in production by a longer sleeve. The shorter sleeve remains available as a
service part.
