High Pressure Safety Valve HVAC: Testing and Inspection

A/C Compressor - Pressure Relief Valve, Checking

Function: protects refrigerant circuit against excessive pressures

CAUTION:

-

Frostbite danger.

-

High pressure refrigerant may leak out if refrigerant circuit is not discharged.

Always evacuate refrigerant prior to opening refrigerant circuit. If refrigerant circuit is not opened within 10 minutes of evacuation,
pressure may form in refrigerant circuit due to evaporation. Evacuate refrigerant once more. 

A/C compressor pressure relief valve - Denso, checking

Evidence of refrigerant oil in the area of the relief valve -arrow- indicates valve has operated.

Replace valve and determine cause of excessive refrigerant system pressure.
