Selector mechanism 02E, 6 Speed Direct Shift A/T

CAUTION!  Shift selector lever into position "P" and engage parking brake before working with the engine running.

Shift cover with knob

Rabbit/GTI knob is shown in illustration at left.

Do not remove knob if not necessary. For emergency release, only cover must be removed.

In right illustration: Before removing knob, pull button past pressure point and secure using cable tie or suitable wire. This prevents button
from being pushed into knob accidentally.

Rabbit/GTI: Do not press button. If it is pressed, knob must be removed and prepared for installation

Brief description of removal and installation:
-

Remove center console.

-

Remove cable from transmission.

-

If necessary: Disconnect or remove.

-

Remove heat shield beneath vehicle.

-

Adjust selector lever cable after installing.
