Jump Starting: Service and Repair

Jump Start Point With Suppressor

NOTE:

-

When disconnecting and connecting battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the Repair Information.

Vehicles with batteries in luggage compartment have an additional external starting point at left of engine compartment. This consists of Terminal
30 Wire Junction TV2 and Suppressor C24.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

-

Torque Wrench V.A.G 1331

Removing

-

Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers.

-

Disconnect battery

-

Disengage retaining clip - arrow A - and open cover - 1 - over positive pole pick-up.

-

Disengage cover - 2 - over electrical wires in - direction of arrow B -.

-

Remove nuts - 5 - and - 6 - at positive cables.

-

Disconnect electrical harness connector - 1 - at suppressor - 4 -.

-

Unscrew bolt - 3 - and remove positive pole pick-up - 2 - with suppressor from retainer.

Installing

Install in reverse order.

Tighten all threaded connections to specified torque

-

On batteries with central venting, connect venting hose to battery.

-

Reconnect battery

CAUTION:  Central battery venting hose must not be kinked, closed and/or damaged. Battery acids pose health risks and are explosive.
Carefully route the hose and ensure the battery can vent freely and not into inside of vehicle.
