Valve Guide: Testing and Inspection
1. Place new valve in guide. Valve shaft stem end must be flush with guide.
NOTE:
-
Intake guides and exhaust guides have different diameter.

Be sure to insert intake valves in intake valve guide and exhaust valves in exhaust valve guides.
2. Install dial gauge and holder tool No. VW387, or equivalent, on cylinder head, adjacent to guide being checked.
3. Rock valve back and forth (arrow) against dial indicator and note total travel.

Wear limit:

Intake valve guide: 1.00 mm (0.0400 inch).

Exhaust valve guide: 1.3 mm (0.051 inch).
