About the Jetta
The Jetta is the saloon version of the Golf, made since 1979 and sold at times as the Vento, Bora and (in China) Sagitar. It has been offered as a two- and four-door saloon and as an estate, and by 2014 more than 14 million had been sold, making it Volkswagen's top-selling model at the time.
What these manuals cover
- 1982–1989 (first and second generations): the 1.7 and 1.8-litre petrol fours, including the 16-valve DOHC 1.8, and the 1.6 diesel and turbo diesel.
- 1993–1999 (third generation, Jetta III): the 1.8 and 2.0-litre fours, the 1.9 turbo diesel and the 2.8-litre VR6.
- 1999–2005 (fourth generation): the 2.0 four, the 1.8 turbo, the 1.9 TDI and the 2.8 VR6, in sedan and wagon form.
- 2005–2010 (fifth generation): the 2.5-litre five-cylinder, the 2.0 turbo and the 2.0 TDI in the SportWagen.
- 2011 (sixth generation): the 2.5 five-cylinder and the 2.0 turbo.
Tip: the code in brackets (such as AWP or BEV) is Volkswagen's engine code. The Jetta is based on the Golf, so the Golf manuals with the same engine code cover the same engine.
