Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair
Steering lock housing, removing and installing
Removing

Remove steering wheel
Remove trim for steering column switch and slip ring or steering angle sensor G85 if installed.

Remove bolt for steering column switch and remove steering column switch.

Remove plastic cover over shear bolts.
The ignition key removal lock cable must be disconnected on vehicles with automatic transmission.

Chisel off shear head bolts with a suitable chisel.
Installing
Installing ignition switch / lock cylinder

Reconnect connector for ignition switch.

Only for automatic transmission, connect ignition key removal lock cable.

Install new shear bolts.

Tighten shear bolts until head shears off.

Installing steering angle sensor G85

The following steps apply to all vehicles.

Installing trim for steering column switch

Install steering wheel

Install airbag unit
Caution: When connecting battery make sure that no one is in the vehicle!
