Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) J248 , Replacing

Checking control module identification:

Check control module identification of previous Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) J248 as follows:

-

Connect Vehicle Diagnostic and Service Information System VAS 5052.

-

Switch ignition on.

-

Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 9: Vehicle information".

-

Select vehicle information "Test-ID 04: Calibration identification".Control module identification will be indicated, e.g.: 3B0907551CG 0001

-

End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

Removing:

-

Remove windshield wiper arms, plenum chamber cover and plenum chamber bulkhead.

-

Cut heads of shear bolts so that two parallel surfaces remain - arrows -.

-

Remove bolts with locking pliers.

-

Insert a screwdriver - A - between protective housing and retaining plate - arrow -.

-

Use screwdriver - A - to pry protective housing upward, and then pull if off sideways from retaining plate - arrow -.
