Input Shaft: Adjustments

Input Shaft, Adjusting

(Determining input shaft adjustment shim)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Dial gauge holder (VW 387)

‹› Magnetic plate (VW 385/17) 

‹› Thrust pad (VW 510)

‹› Thrust pad (VW 447 i)

‹› Punch (VW 407)

‹› Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

‹› Dial gauge

It is only necessary to readjust the input shaft if the following components are replaced:

‹› Transmission housing

‹› Clutch housing

‹› Input Shaft

‹› Drive gear for 4th gear

or the

‹› Tapered roller bearing

Adjustment Overview 

Requirements:

‹› Sealing surfaces of clutch and transmission housing must be cleaned of sealant.

Press tapered roller bearing outer race without adjustment shim into clutch housing up to stop.

Install input shaft into clutch housing and install transmission housing. Tighten bolts to 25 Nm and then turn 90° further.

Install measuring device and dial gauge in clutch housing (large tapered roller bearing in transmission housing).
