Installing –  Slide convertible roof fabric into convertible roof retaining rail from side (second mechanic required). When pulling in use lubricant (e.g. silicone lubricant spray -D 007 000 A2-).

–  Insert clamping profile of padding section for convertible roof cover -1- in channel of roof bracing 1 -2- in -direction of arrow-.

–  Insert beading of convertible roof cover -1- in channel of roof bracing 4 -2- in -direction of arrow-.

–  To facilitate the working procedure, insert convertible roof cover/hinge -1- in ball socket -2- in -direction of arrow-.   Note Do not secure securing clip!

–  Align centring lines (line markings) -1- with hole -2- of intermediate bolt -3- in -direction of arrow-. –  Screw bolt in hole of surround strip -4- (as shown in diagram).

–  Fit the intermediate bolt -1- with the rim band -2- and the liner tensioning belt -3- in the hole of the intermediate bolt.

–  With the aid of a rubber hammer, press attachment of trim for roof leading edge of padding section with convertible roof cover into channel of roof leading edge in -direction of arrow-.

–  Insert clamping bead for padding in roof leading edge -1-, roof bracing 1 -2-, roof bracing 2 -3--arrows-.   Note Observe correct seating of each clamping beading.

–  Install securing bolt on roof leading edge -arrow-. –  Insert convertible roof cover clamping beading into each hoop.

–  Secure pull strap -1- on roof bracing 2 -2-. To facilitate this work step, install securing bolt -3- on pull strap -1- and on headliner pull strap -4- first.   Note Observe correct seating of tensioning belt -1- (cross form, not twisted).

–  Align marking (line) -1- of securing strip for roof leading edge with hole in roof leading edge -2-. –  Press securing strip of roof leading edge into channel of roof leading edge.

–  Pull tensioning cord into sides of convertible roof cover using a suitable wire cable.

–  Secure rear tensioning cord with a bolt/screw.

–  Hook ball into front of roof frame.

–  Stick padding material onto C-pillar -arrow- using double-sided adhesive tape.

–  Check sealing cord -1- on convertible roof retaining frame, renew if necessary.

–  Remove fitting bracket -V.A.G 1887- from convertible roof fabric retaining frame and body.

–  Position convertible roof fabric retaining frame and tighten nut -4- (10 Nm) first. –  Tighten bolts/screws -3- (10 Nm) working from the centre outwards.

–  Press hinge -6- in ball socket -2-.   Note The previous work step is only valid for vehicles with electrohydraulic convertible roof. –  Secure with securing clip -3-. –  Secure retaining clip -5- with a pop rivet -4-. –  Reconnect connector -1-.

–  Press beading into insert channel of rear window -arrow-.

–  Push in convertible roof headliner -2- on roof fabric retaining bar -1- against -direction of arrow-.   Note Start at the centre when doing this.

–  If existing, fit water guide -1- with insert beading -2-.

–  With the aid of a screwdriver, guide the long tensioning belt -1- through the securing strap of the convertible roof padding -2- and pull out. To do this, place screwdriver in hole of long tensioning strap and pull out long tensioning strap in -direction of arrow-.

–  Place long tensioning strap -2- behind short tensioning strap -1-. –  Align securing holes of both tensioning straps to each other. –  Secure both tensioning belts to frame with a pop rivet -3-.   Note Observe correct seat of tensioning belts (as shown in figure). –  Open convertible roof to half open position.

–  Insert bead in C-pillar channel in -direction of arrow-.   Note Beading must close flush with upper edge of C-pillar.

–  Hook hooking beading into channel on front of roof leading edge -arrow-.

–  Press convertible roof cover clamping beading into clamping channel of roof leading edge on side -arrow-.

–  Install securing bolts for convertible roof cover -arrow-.

–  Install roof frame front seal -arrow A- and C-pillar seal -arrow B-. –  Install roof leading edge trim → Chapter. –  Install side trim panel → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70 –  Install head restraint cover → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.72
