Convertible Top - Catches On Side Flap When Closing

Condition

70 07 02 Feb. 9, 2007, 2005443, Supersedes Technical Bulletin Group 70 number 03-01 dated Apr. 28, 2003 due to inclusion into ElsaWeb.

Convertible Top, Optimizing Stops for Side Panel Trim Flap Opening Mechanism
Headliner for convertible top contacts and catches (pulls on) flap opening mechanism trim when closing top.

Technical Background

NOTE:  

It is normal for the headliner material to rub against the flap opening mechanism trim, however material should not catch and pull on the trim.

Flap opening mechanism stops optimized beginning VIN: 1Y_3M317486.

Service

Optimize flap opening mechanism stops for ALL vehicles prior to VIN: 1Y_3M317486, by performing the following:

NOTE:  

If flap opening mechanism is damaged and must be replaced, see Technical Bulletin 2005447 for additional information.

Exchange stop -1- from left side flap opening mechanism (shown) to right side flap opening mechanism and from right side flap opening
mechanism to left side flap opening mechanism.

To remove flap stop:

-

Operate roof (open) until roof is open and stop operation while flap covers are still in the open position.

Remove both rear headrest covers (pull straight up) to help access nut -1- (torque = .7 Nm. + .5 Nm.) for flap opening mechanism stop.

Loosen only (DO NOT remove) nut -1- from left and right flap opening mechanism stops.

Install left flap opening mechanism stop on right side. - Install right flap opening mechanism stop on left side.

Fastener torque = .7Nm. + .5Nm.

Long groove in the flap mechanism stop (arrow) will now engage the plastic rib on the flap mechanism.
