Engine Control Module (ECM), Replacing

Work procedure

Check control module identification of the previous Engine Control Module (ECM) as follows:

Connect diagnostic tester. See: Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/Scan Tool Connecting/Diagnostic Tester,
Connecting

-

Switch ignition on.

-

Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 9: Vehicle information".

-

Select vehicle information 'Test-ID 04: Calibration Identification".

Control module identification will be displayed, e.g.:
06A906032NA 4983

-

End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

-

Remove inner plenum chamber cover.

-

Carefully press back mounting bracket (arrow).

-

Disengage connector from control module and then disconnect it.

-

Pull control module out of mounting frame.

Installing

Installation is in reverse of removal. Note the following:

-

Check whether new control module identification matches old control module identification.

Generate readiness code. See: Testing and Inspection/Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
