Connect pressure gauge V.A.G 1402 VAG1402.

3. Banjo fitting
4. Ring support of pressure hose

6. Hose of pressure gauge V.A.G 1402

Remove Hose Clamps Up To 25 mm Dia. 3094 from intake line and return line.

Start engine and top off fluid level in reservoir if necessary.

Turn steering wheel from stop to stop approximately 10 times.

Check pumping pressure.
Test requirements:

Ribbed belt/ribbed belt tension OK
^
Sealing of system
^
Hoses/lines are not kinked or constricted

With engine at idle speed, close stopcock (not more than 5 seconds) and read pressure.
Specified values
-
Gasoline engines: 85 to 95 bar

Diesel engines: 96 to 105 bar
Note:

If specification is not reached or exceeded, replace pump:
^
Removing and installing power steering pump, vehicles with low-mounted power steering pump.
^
If power steering fluid is low in the servo fluid reservoir, check steering system for leaks.
^
In case of leaks at steering pinion, check lines/line connections for leaks, if necessary tighten and wipe dry.
^
In case of leaks at the steering pinion or at pinion shaft seal in steering housing, the steering gear must be replaced.
^
To test rack seal open hose clamp of boots and set boots aside.
