Chain Assembly Overview.

Timing Chain

‹› Beginning with Model Year (MY) 2008 the roller chain has been changed to a tooth chain.

‹› Removing:

-

Work procedure same as for "Adjust valve timing". Refer to => [ Valve Timing, Adjusting ] See: Cylinder Head Assembly/Adjustments.

Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to => [ Brake Booster Vacuum Pump ] See: Brakes and Traction Control/Power Brake Assist/Vacuum
Pump/Service and Repair/Brake Booster Vacuum Pump.

Mark direction of travel.

‹› Note when installing:

-

Install in original direction of rotation.

-

Chain must lie correctly in the tensioning and guide rails.

-

Adjust the valve timing. Refer to => [ Valve Timing, Adjusting ] See: Cylinder Head Assembly/Adjustments.

Strainer

‹› Replace

Bolt, 10 Nm

Timing Chain Tensioner

‹› Secure with locking pin (T03006).

Gasket

‹› Replace

Timing Chain Guide Rail

‹› Oil before installing the pin.

Bolt, 60 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn

‹› Replace

Bolt, 60 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn
