Shifter A/T: Testing and Inspection
Driving Range Signal, Checking

Driving range signal, checking

Vehicles with automatic transmission only

Engine Control Module (ECM) receives the following information from transmission control module:

-

Driving range selected (selector lever in 1/2/3/R/D) or

-

No driving range selected (selector lever in P or N)

Special tools and equipment

-

VAG 1551 Scan Tool or vehicle system tester VAG 1552 with cable VAG 1551/3B

-

Test box VAG 1598/31

-

Hand multimeter VAG 1526 or multimeter VAG 1715

-

Adapter set VAG 1594

-

Wiring diagram 

Checking conditions

-

The selector lever of the automatic transmission must be in "P" or "N" position

-

Air conditioning must be switched off

Test sequence

-

Connect scan tool VAG 1551 (or VAG 1552). Switch ignition on and select engine control module with "Address word" 01. Connecting scan tool
and selecting Engine Control Module (ECM).

Select function XX

-

Press buttons -0- and -8- for function "Read Measuring Value Block" and confirm entry with -Q- button.

Indicated on display

Read Measuring Value Block
Input display group number XXX

Press buttons -0-, -5- and -1- for "Display group number 51" and confirm entry with -Q- button.

Indicated on display (1-4 Display zones)

Check specifications in display zone 3:

-

Set selector lever in position P or N:
Specification: 0

-

Set selector lever in position 1/2/3 or D:
Specification: 1

Set selector lever in position R:
Specification: 7

If the specifications are not obtained:

-

Press -> button.

-

Press buttons -0- and -6- for "End output" function and confirm input with -Q- button.

-

Switch ignition off.
