Starter Motor: Service and Repair
Starter, removing and installing
Gasoline engine
CAUTION!
Before working on the electrical system:
-
Determine the correct coding for the anti- theft radio.
-
Switch ignition off.
-
Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.
-
After reconnecting battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also the check operation of clock and power windows.
The following starters are installed:
-
Gasoline 2.0 liter: 12 V - 1.0 kW
-
Diesel 1.9 liter: 12 V - 1.8 kW
NOTE: Removing and installing starter bushing.

Disconnect Ground (GND) strap at battery.
-
Remove noise insulation.
-
Remove coolant hose retainer -1-.
-
Remove threaded studs (arrows).
-
When installing tighten threaded stud to 60 Nm (44 ft lb).
-
Release and disconnect terminal 50 connector harness connector (arrow) (upper).
-
Disconnect cable from starter solenoid terminal 30 (arrow) (lower).
-
When installing tighten nut to 13 Nm (10 ft lb).
