Radio - Warning Chimes Remain On After Installation

All vehicles, except Vanagon, incorporating the 1991 product update are equipped with the warning chime circuit in the radio power connector.
This circuit controls function of the anti-theft LED for the 1991 Heidelberg VII model radio.
We recommend that on 1991 vehicles (except Vanagon) only the Heidelberg VII radios be installed.
Condition
If radios other than the Heidelberg VII are installed, the following conditions will occur:
Passat, Corrado Vehicles equipped with motorized seat belt system will always be in the rearward or "buckled up" position and will only release into the
forward or "rest" position when doors are open. In addition, ignition warning chimes will remain on when doors are open, even with ignition key
removed.
Fox, Golf, Jetta Warning chimes will remain on when doors are open, even with ignition key removed.
Service Solution
The warning chime circuit must be removed from the radio power connector when installing VWoA approved radios other than the Heidelberg VII.
Repair instructions
The warning chime circuit is located in cavity 4 of the power connector (located in the bottom receptacle of radio). Remove brown/red wire from cavity
4 and tape securely to wire harness to avoid electrical shorts. (See illustration)
Note Adapter, Part No. 200 035 447, will allow all radios to be installed in 1991 vehicles with product update except Sound II systems (which have six
speakers and amplifiers in the door panels). Vehicles with Sound II systems will already have a Heidelberg VII radio, if that radio is replaced with
another, then the warning chime circuit must be removed as described in the repair instructions.
