^ check for correct ATF temperature, use VAG 1551 tester, use "Read measuring value block" program 08, group 5, channel 1, to establish temperature
of ATF
^
must be 60°C to 80°C (140°F to 176°F)
^ check ATF level on dipstick and add or remove ATF fluid until fluid is between Min. and Max. marks on dipstick
ATF Level checking when instruments VAG 1551 and VAG 1558 are unavailable
Note
Only if tester VAG 1551 and VAG 1558 are unavailable, is the following procedure to measure the ATF level in the transmission to be used.
Checking conditions
^ vehicle on level surface
^ hand brake applied
^ selector lever in "Park"
^ engine running at idle
^ raise engine RPM. (not to exceed 2,000 RPM) until radiator fan cycles "on" the first time
^ return engine to idle to minimize foaming of ATF
^ apply foot brake, put vehicle into any gear for 2-3 seconds and return to "Park" position on selector immediately after second radiator fan cycle, check
ATP level on dipstick, add or remove ATF until level is between 36-40 mm up from bottom of dipstick
