Constant Velocity Joint: Service and Repair
Outer Joint

    Refer to Fig. 3 during replacement procedures.

1.

Remove drive axle.

2.

Press off vibration damper from constant velocity joint. Do not damage coating on axle shaft.

3.

Drive constant velocity joint off by striking with an aluminum mallet.

4.

Mark position of ball hub in relation to cage and housing prior to disassembling.

5.

Remove pivot ball hub and cage, then remove balls. Do not interchange balls from one cage with balls from another.

6.

Turn cage until two rectangular openings are even with joint edge, then remove cage with the hub.

7.

Turn hub until one segment can be pushed into rectangular opening of cage, then tilt hub out of cage. Check housing, hub, cage and balls for
pitting or scoring.
Do not replace joint due to a polished appearance or because of visible ball track.

8.

Fill joint with 45 grams of G6.2 grease (half of total amount).

9.

Install cage with hub, into housing. Balls must be installed from opposite side. Marked position of hub, cage and housing must match.

10.

Install new circlip on shaft, then fill joint with remaining grease.
