Body/Interior - Noise From Sunroof Headliner Area

Condition

Headliner Noise

Noise from headliner coming from front of sunroof area.

60 06 01 Nov. 16, 2006, 2012808, Supersedes Technical Bulletin Group 60 number 01-01 dated May 14, 2001 due to inclusion into ElsaWeb.

Technical Background

This may be caused by friction between sunroof frame and headliner.

Production Solution

Felt tape has been added to the underside of the sunroof frame (carrier unit) beginning with VIN 3B_1P284196.

Service

On vehicles up to VIN 3B_1P284195, partially remove molded headliner (be careful not to crease or damage the headliner):

-

Remove upper A-pillar trim, dome light, and both sunvisors.

-

Remove center sunvisor, sunvisor light housings, and all grab handles.

-

Remove rear headliner clips, and partially remove upper B- and C-pillar trim.

-

Partially remove upper section of door seals.

Completely cover edges of sunroof frame with felt tape, Part No.533867910A, (see arrows).

Felt tape must be spaced approx.15 mm from center of bolt holes.

Apply tape in 60 X 35 mm size at 90 degree angle to sunroof frame (3 strips are needed to make 60 mm width).

-

Reinstall headliner in reverse order of removal.

Tip:  Metal retaining clips can be damaged during removal of A-, B-, and C / D-pillar trim, and must then be replaced.See Repair Manual, Repair Group
