Condition:
Poor or no radio reception can be caused by installation of a "Premium" AM/FM cassette stereo without the "Phantom" amplified antenna circuit.

The 1995 Passat uses a "Phantom" amplified antenna without power leads. The antenna cable carries power to the amplifier and the signal to the radio
requiring the use of a special radio.

Service

Use the following procedure for vehicles produced prior to VIN SE132216 that exhibit the above condition.

Remove radio and inspect for AM/FM cassette stereo part number: 3A0 035 180 (Premium III)

If part number is incorrect, replace with part number listed above.

Code radio and test to assure proper operation of radio.
