Passat Syncro Wagon V6-2.8L (ATQ) (2000)
-
Check position of camshafts to one another. The arrows on the bearing caps must align with the cut-outs on the camshafts -arrows-. To do this it
maybe necessary to move one camshaft onto the marking.
The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the dismantling sequence.
Install toothed belt and adjust valve timing. Refer to Timing Components - Service and Repair - Procedures See: Timing Components/Timing
Belt/Service and Repair/Procedures
CAUTION: When new lifters have been installed the engine must not be started for about 30 minutes. The hydraulic compensation elements
must settle (otherwise valves will strike pistons). Then turn crankshaft two full revolutions by hand before starting.
Camshaft adjustment, checking
Camshaft adjustment is dependent upon load and revolutions. The camshaft adjustment electric valve switches oil pressure to camshaft adjuster
(mechanical adjuster) which then adjusts the camshaft.
Special tools and equipment
-
V.A.G 1551 Scan tool or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with cable V.A.G 1551/3
Test sequence
-
Check camshaft adjustment solenoid activation via output diagnostic test mode.
Refer to Powertrain Management - Computers and Control Systems - Testing and Inspection - Procedures See: Powertrain
Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/With Manufacturer's Scan Tool/Output
Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM), (Function 03)
If activation is OK:
-
Measure resistance between solenoid valve contacts.
Specification: 10 - 18 Ohms
If no fault can be found on the valves:
-
Check function of camshaft adjuster.
Note:
The vehicle must be driven by a second person when checking the camshaft adjustment.
WARNING! Secure scan tool to rear seat and operate from this position.
-
Connect scan tool V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552). Start engine and select engine control unit with "Address word" 01.
