Measure resistance between both spark plug connectors of an ignition coil.
Specified value: approx. 18-25 k Ohms.

Repeat check at other two ignition coils.

If the specifications are not attained:

-

Remove ignition cables from ignition coils.

-

Check resistance of ignition cables. 
Specification: approx. 4.0-6.0 k Ohms

-

Check secondary resistance of ignition coils.
Specification: 8.0-14.0 k Ohms

If the specifications are again not attained:

-

Replace ignition coils and power output stage.

If the specifications are attained:

-

Check actuation signal for power output stage.

Voltage supply, checking

-

Disconnect 5-pin connector -1- from ignition coil assembly -2-.

-

Connect multimeter US1119 (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to measure voltage across terminals 1 and 2 using adapters from VW1594 connector test kit.

-

Switch ignition on.
Specified value: min. 11.5 volts

If no voltage is present:

-

Switch ignition off.

-

Check wire between 5-pin connector terminal 2 and Ground for open circuit using appropriate wiring diagram.
Specified value: max. 1.5 Ohms
