Condition
Under extreme temperature conditions, the expansion valve may produce a hissing and/or groaning noise.
This is a fluid noise resulting from the increased system pressure of the R-134a A/C system in contrast to the lower pressure R-12 system.
Production
Improved expansion valve as of vendor production 3/93 (week 11) installed as of 1994 m.y.
The improved valves are marked with vendor production date 1193 or later. The first two digits of the vendor production number signity the week (11)
and the second two digits (93) signify the year.
The improved valves are identified with vendor production number 1193216 TGK (with a yellow dot) OR as of number 1193128 TGK (without a yellow
dot). Valves with a production date later than 1193 are the improved type and can be used, but will not have a yellow dot.
Service
If a hissing and/or groaning noise comes from the expansion valve,
-
replace expansion valve with an improved valve, vendor production number as of
1193216 TGK (with a yellow dot) OR as of
1193128 TGK (without a yellow dot)
The Parts Department will supply only the improved expansion valve.
