Fuel Injector: Testing and Inspection
Fuel Injector
REQUIREMENTS
-
LED Test Light VAG 1527B.
-
Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM).
-
Test Connector kit VW 1594 or Equivalent.
-
Digital Potentiometer VAG 1630 or Resistance Adaptor VAG 1490.
-
Injector Volume Flow Tester VAG 1602 or 6 Beakers and a Graduated Beaker to catch and measure fuel from injectors.
-
Refer to Tools and Equipment for test equipment specifications.
TEST PROCEDURE
Resistance Tests
-
Refer too VAG 1598 Pin Out Box/ Electrical Checks steps 11 to 16. or Proceed to following test.

Remove Intake Manifold for access to Injectors and Fuel Rail
-
Disconnect harness connectors from all fuel injectors.
-
Switch DVOM to resistance range.
-
Connect DVOM to terminals of each fuel injector using jumper wires from VW 1594 adaptor kit.
-
Must be 15 to 21.5 Ohms.
If 0 Ohms.
-
Check for short circuit in wiring using wiring diagram. repair or replace as necessary.
If wiring OK.
-
Replace fuel injector(s).
Voltage supply TESTS

Disconnect harness connector from ignition coil power Output stage.
-
Connect LED tester between terminals 1 and 2 of harness connector for each injector using jumper wires from VW 1594 adaptor kit.
-
Operate starter, LED tester must flicker.
Repeat test for each injector.
If NO.
-
Re-connect the hamess connectors to fuel injectors.
-
Check for open circuit in wiring between fuel injectors (N 30, N 31, N 32, N 33, N 83, N 84) and engine control module. Refer to VAG 1598
Pin Out Box/ Electrical Checks steps 11 to 16 or using wiring diagram, repair or replace as necessary.
Spray Pattern Test.

Remove fuel rail assembly complete with fuel injectors.
-
Disconnect harness connector from blue engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor (G 62).
-
Preset digital potentiometer VAG 1630 to 15,000 Ohms.
