Servicing selector mechanism (cable selector mechanism)
Removing and installing gear selector mechanism

Removing operating cable with gear stick housing and support bracket.

Removing

 
N34-0141
  • ‒ Remove gear stick knob with gaiter and remove securing nuts for centre console on gear stick housing .
  • ‒ Separate front exhaust pipe at catalyst.

=> Repair group 26; Removing and installing parts of exhaust system.

  • ‒ → Remove front (arrow) and rear cross supports, below the exhaust system.
  • ‒ Remove front and rear heat shields.

  • ‒ → Remove gear change cable (arrow A) and gate change cable (arrow B)
 
N34-0442
  • ‒ → Remove angle piece (arrows) for support bracket from assembly carrier.
 
N34-0445
  • ‒ → Remove nut (arrow) for support bracket and pull off support bracket.

Note:

  • ‒ Push exhaust system to right when pulling off support bracket.
  • ‒ Unbolt gear stick housing from body.
  • ‒ Take out operating cables with gear stick housing and support bracket.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence, when doing this note the following:

  • ‒ Adjusting selector mechanism .

Removing and installing gear stick lever and relay lever mounting bracket

 
N34-0443
  • ‒ → Remove gear change cable (arrow 1) and gate change cable (arrow 2).
  • ‒ Unscrew gate change rod with ball head (arrow 3) from selector finger.
  • ‒ Remove selector finger by loosening bolt (arrow 4).
 
N34-0444
  • ‒ → Unscrew mounting bracket from gearbox (arrows).
  • A = Commercially available 13 mm AF, 3/8" square drive deep socket and universal joint.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence, when doing this note the following:

  • ‒ Adjusting selector mechanism => Page 34-41 .
