Checking engine speed senderG28
Checking engine speed sender -G28-
Engine speed sender -G28- is speed and reference mark sender. A failure stops the engine.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31-
t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526C- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-
t  Current flow diagram
Test procedure
–  Switch off ignition.
   
–  Separate grey connector for engine speed sender -G28--1- to sender.
  N23-0379
–  Connect hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526C- (resistance measurement) using adapter cable from auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C- to contacts 1 and 2 of engine speed sender -G28- connector. Specification: approx. 450..550 Ω
If the specification is not attained:
–  Renew engine speed sender -G28- → Chapter.
If the specification is attained:
  A24-0089
–  Connect adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31- to control unit wiring harness.
–  Check wiring between adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31- and 3-pin connector for open circuit according to current flow diagram.
Contact 1 + socket 110
Contact 1 + socket 102
Contact 3 + socket 102
  N23-0377
Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ω.
–  Check cables at 3-pin connector for short circuit to one another according to current flow diagram.
Specification: ∞ Ω.
If no fault in lines is detected:
–  Renew diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- → Chapter.
