Special tools, workshop equipment, test and measuring appliances and auxiliary items required

  • ◆ V.A.G 1306 Drip tray
  • ◆ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
  • ◆ V.A.G 1921 Spring-type clip pliers
  • ◆ Anti-freeze tester

Notes:

  • ◆ The coolant pump may have a silicon sealing ring fitted. If damaged or leaking renew pump complete.
  • ◆ The lower part of the toothed belt guard must be removed.
  • ◆ The main drive toothed belt must be removed.
  • ◆ Cover toothed belt with a cloth to protect it from coolant before removing coolant pump.

Removing

  • ‒ Drain coolant
  • ‒ First remove main drive toothed belt
    => Page 13-14 .

  • ‒ → Remove idler roller -1-, to do this remove idler roller securing bolt -2-.
  • ‒ Unscrew coolant pump securing bolts -5- and remove coolant pump -4-.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:

  • ‒ Fit new gasket -3-.
  • ‒ Insert coolant pump -4- into cylinder block and tighten securing bolts -5-.
         Tightening torque: 20 Nm
  • ‒ Install idler roller -1- and tighten securing bolt -2-.
         Tightening torque: 25 Nm
  • ‒ Install toothed belt and tension => Page 13-14 .
  • ‒ Install ribbed belt => Page 13-11 .
  • ‒ Filling with coolant => Page 19-12
