Removing
Prerequisites
l  The engine must be no more than warm to touch.
l  The pistons must not be positioned at TDC.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If so, obtain anti-theft coding.
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
   
–  Remove air filter. Remove bolts -arrows- as marked.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Loosen hose clips and pull coolant hoses off coolant thermostat housing.
–  Loosen or separate the following components:
t  central connector
t  accelerator cable
t  high tension terminal 4 from ignition distributor
t  hose to activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 -N80-
t  vacuum hose from intake manifold to brake servo
t  earth strap on retainer to ignition transformer
t  2-pin connector from knock sensor (rear of cylinder block)
–  Now separate the fuel supply and return lines at the connection point on the suspension strut turret. The fuel system is pressurised. Therefore, wrap a cloth around connection before pulling hose off.
–  Seal lines so that fuel system is not contaminated by dirt.
The engine must be lowered slightly as follows to enable the crankshaft belt pulley to be removed:
  N24-0297
–  Fit support bracket -10 - 222 A- with frame -10 - 222 A /1- as shown.
–  Take up weight of engine and remove right engine mounting.
–  Lower engine slightly.
–  Remove cover for poly V-belt.
–  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Remove front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
–  Remove belt pulley and upper and lower section of belt guard.
–  Loosen toothed belt tensioning roller and remove toothed belt.
–  Now lift engine again slightly and refit right engine support.
–  Pull clamp securing coolant pipe to coolant pump off thermostat housing.
–  Remove cylinder head cover.

–  Loosen cylinder head bolts in sequence given and then remove completely.
–  Carefully remove cylinder head.
