  • ◆ The fault tables are listed according to the 5 digit fault code on the left.
  • ◆ Explanation of the fault types (e.g. "open circuit/short circuit to earth"):

=> Fault reader operating instructions

  • ◆ If components are indicated as faulty:
    First check the wiring and connectors to these components as well as the system earth connections according to current flow diagram. This is particularly relevant if faults are output as "occurring sporadically" (SP).

Explanation:

  • ◆ 00523 = Fault code
  • ◆ 030 = Fault type as number
  • ◆ Intake air temperature sender -G42 = Faulty current path or incorrect location
  • ◆ Short to earth = Fault type as text
  • ◆ Sporadic faults = Faults that are not always present e.g. loose contact

- Short to earth in wiring between engine control unit and on-board computer

No signal

- Signal wire has an open circuit or short to earth or short to positive
- Earth wire has open circuit or short to positive
- Open circuit in the screening from -G28
- -G28 defective
- Metal particles on engine speed sender -G28
- Gap between -G28/sender wheel too large

- The engine revs only to a speed of approx. 4500 rpm)
- Reduced performance
- When cold the engine will not start or is difficult to start (cold starting problems)
- The engine will not start when hot or is difficult to start (hot starting problems)

- Sender wheel loose

- Engine misfiring

- Check sender wheel:
=> Repair group 13; Removing and installing cylinder block, sealing flange and flywheel/drive plate

- Engine control unit signal output defective (engine control unit defective)

- Replace engine control unit .

Notes on fault code 00513:

  • ◆ Metal particles can cause additional signals to be generated.
  • ◆ Signals may not be generated or be too small and therefore not recognised if the sender gap to sender wheel is too large or the sender wheel is damaged.
  • ◆ The signals can be irregular if the sender wheel is loose.
  • ◆ Interference signals can cause additional signals to be recognised.
