t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526C-
  W00-10311
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-
Test prerequisites
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 V
l  Ignition switched off
l  Diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- is OK.
l  Glow plug strip fuse (S 39) or (S 164) OK.
Test procedure
–  Pull connector from coolant temperature sender -G62-.
  Note
Pulling the connector off sender, simulates engine condition “cold” and when switching the ignition on the relevant glow period is carried out.
–  Pull glow plug connectors from glow plugs.
–  Connect multimeter to measure voltage between a glow plug connector and vehicle earth.
–  Switch on ignition. Approx. battery voltage must be displayed for roughly 20 seconds.
–  If no voltage is present: → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
