Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with diagnosis cable -V.A.G 1551/3-
Test prerequisite
l  Fault eliminated
  Note
After eliminating faults the fault memory must be interrogated again as follows and then erased.
Procedure
–  Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-. Start engine and select “address word 01” of engine control unit. ((Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- and select engine control unit → Chapter)
   
Indicated on display:
–  Press buttons 0 and 2 for function “Read fault memory” and confirm entry with Q button.

–  Press → button until all faults still stored have been displayed and the display shows:
–  Press buttons 0 and 5 for “Clear fault memory” function and confirm entry with Q button.

Indicated on display:
–  If the fault memory will not erase there is a fault still in the system and this must be rectified.
–  Press → button.
  
Rapid data transfer                   ->
Fault memory is cleared!
Indicated on display:
–  Press buttons 0 and 6 for function “End data transfer” and confirm entry with Q button.
–  Carry out a further road test. Then interrogate fault memory again. No further fault may be displayed.
