Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
  W00-0427
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
Removing:
–  Disconnect earth strap at battery.
  W00-0428
–  Unclip line -1- from bracket -2-.
–  Unscrew hexagon bolt -3- and remove bracket -2-.

–  Release terminal 50 connector -1- and pull disconnect.
–  Remove plastic cap -2- and disconnect wire from solenoid switch terminal 30.

–  Remove hexagon bolt -1-.
–  Remove hexagon nut -4-.
  Note
On some vehicles the bolts -2- and -3- are secured with a clip.
–  Unscrew hexagon bolt -3- and remove bolt -2-.
–  Take starter out downwards.
Installing:
–  Insert starter.
  N27-0009
–  Insert hexagon bolts -1- and -3- and tighten hand-tight.
–  Insert hexagon bolt -2- and tighten hexagon nut -4- hand-tight.
–  Tighten hexagon bolts -1- and -3- and hexagon nut -4-.
Specified torques → Rep. Gr.34
  Note
If necessary, secure bolts -2- and -3- with a clip.
  N27-0009
–  Reconnect terminal 50 connector -1-.
–  Tighten wire terminal from solenoid switch (terminal 30) to 13 Nm and fit plastic cap -2-.

–  Install bracket -2- and tighten hexagon bolt -arrow-.
–  Clip line -1- into bracket -2-.
