Safety measures when working in the supply system > < Supply system components - remove and install
Fuel tank with assembly parts and fuel filter - remove and install
   
Fuel tank with assembly parts and fuel filter - remove and install
1 - Fuel reservoir
q   When removing, raising and installing, use the Transmission jack or engine + transmission set -VAG 1383A-.
q   Remove and install → Chapter.
2 - 25 Nm
3 - Fastening strap
4 - Vent hose
q   White.
q   Pay attention on firm fastening.
q   Fastened on top of the fuel tank.
q   For activated charcoal filter.
q   To disconnect from the flange, press the buttons on the connector.
5 - Return hose
q   Blue or with blue marking, respectively.
q   Fastened laterally to the fuel tank.
q   Pay attention on firm fastening.
q   From the fuel distributor.
q   To disconnect from the flange, press the buttons on the connector.
6 - Supply hose
q   Black.
q   Secure with spring clamps.
q   Pay attention on firm fastening.
q   To the fuel distributor.
q   To disconnect from the flange, press the buttons on the connector.
7 - Fuel filter
q   Installation position: The arrow indicates the flow direction.
8 - 5 Nm
q   For fastening clamp for the fuel filter.
9 - Fuel level indicator sensor
q   Remove and install → Chapter.
10 - Fuel pump (pre-supply pump) -G6-
q   Remove and install → Chapter.
q   Clean screen filter, if dirty.
q   Check Fuel pump (pre-supply pump) -G6- → Chapter.
q   Check the flange installation position in the fuel tank → Fig.
11 - Return hose
q   Blue.
q   Fastened laterally to the fuel tank.
q   Pay attention on firm fastening.
q   To disconnect from the flange, press the buttons on the connector.
12 - Supply hose
q   Black.
q   Fastened laterally to the fuel tank.
q   Pay attention on firm fastening.
q   To disconnect from the flange, press the buttons on the connector.
13 - Sealing ring
q   Replace.
q   To install, insert in the housing for the Fuel pump (pre-supply pump) -G6- and the seal in the fuel reservoir.
q   Lubricate only to install the Fuel pump (pre-supply pump) -G6- flange.
14 - Connection nut, 80 Nm
q   Remove and install with the Wrench or VW 5321/7 -3217 -.
15 - Vent valve
q   Check → Fig.
q   To remove, tighten the lock slightly inwards and remove the valve.
16 - Reservoir lid
q   Replace gasket, if damaged.
17 - Fastening screw
18 - Fuel tank nozzle compartment lid
q   With rubber bellows.
q   Remove and install → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. Gr.55.
19 - Gravity valve
q   To remove the valve, pull it out above the nozzle clips.
q   Check vertical valve passage: open valve and inclined at 45°: closed.
20 - Vent hose
q   Pay attention on firm fastening.
21 - Activated charcoal filter
q   Installation location: in the right rear wheel case.
22 - 10 Nm
23 - Vent hose
q   Fastened on the fuel tank.
q   Pay attention on firm fastening.

   
Installation position for the Fuel pump (pre-supply pump) -G6-
The marking on the Fuel pump (pre-supply pump) -G6- must match the marking on the fuel tank -arrows-.
The return pipe, blue or with blue marking, -1- at the connection with identification -R-.
The supply pipe, black, -2- at the connection with identification -V-.
  Note
After installing theFuel pump (pre-supply pump) -G6-, check whether the input, return and vent hoses are still fastened to the fuel reservoir.

Check the vent valve
Lever in rest position: closed.
Lever pushed towards the -arrow-: open.
  Note
Before installing the vent valve, remove the nozzle lid.
