Identification of engine bearing caps > < F- retighten driving wheel
Crank shaft - remove and install
Crank shaft - remove and install
  Note
t  To perform assembly jobs, it is necessary to fix engine onto assembly anvil, using Engine and gearbox support -VW 540-.
t  Before performing assembly jobs it is necessary to lubricate support and sliding surfaces.
   
1 - Sliding element
q   To slide oil pump
q   Lubricate with oil before installing oil pump
2 - Caps 1, 2, 3. 4, and 5
q   Classification for replacement orders → Chapter.
q   For bearing covers without lubricating duct
q   For engine block with lubrication duct
q   Do not change used caps (mark them)
3 - 65 Nm
q   Replace
4 - Bearing covers
q   Cover 1 Pulley side
q   Cover 3 with case for adjusting rings
q   Lids of engine block caps and covers must meet
5 - Cap 3
q   ⇒ Position → Item
q   Do not change used caps (mark them)
6 - Crank shaft
q   Axial gap new: 0.070...0.243 mm Wear limit: 0.250 mm
q   Radial gap with Plastigage New: 0.013...0.054 mm Wear limit: 0.170 mm
q   When measuring radial gap, do not turn crank shaft
q   Crank shaft specifications → Chapter.
7 - Adjusting ring
q   For engine block, cap 3
