Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Support for VW 643 or VW 643/1 -VW 313-
t  "Torque wrench - 40 to 200 Nm (enc. 1/2")" -VAG 1332-
t  Spanner insert 32 -VAG 1332/6-
t  Clamp pliers or VW 004V -VAG 1275-
t  Support for gearbox -T10108-

Removal:
  Note
The steering yokes can only be removed and installed with the steering box removed.
–  Close the steering box pipes if this has not been done yet.
–  Clean the steering box on the outer section with the bellows.
To remove the right steering bar, open the left bellows tightening clamp and push the bellows backward because, to release the right steering bar, it is necessary to press against the left gear rack.
–  Open the clamp with the Clamp pliers or VW 004V -VAG 1275- and move the bellows backwards.
Vehicles with electrohydraulic steering (JTEKT):
   
–  Fasten the steering box to the Support for transmission -T10108- and loosen the steering bar -1- from the rack -2-.
To fasten the steering box, use the hole „5“ and the proper gearbox support hole, located on the front.
Vehicles with electrohydraulic steering (TRW):

–  Fasten the steering box to the Support for transmission -T10108- and loosen the steering bar -1- from the rack -2-.
To fasten the steering box, use the hole „5“ and the proper gearbox support hole, located on the front.
Installation:
The installation is performed in the reverse sequence from the removal.

Tightening torque: 
Steering bar to steering box80 ± 8 Nm
