Note| Before removal of oil filter, cover alternator with a cleaning cloth. |
| q | Loosen with oil filter tool -3417-. |
| q | Observe installation instructions on oil filter. |
| q | With non-return valve. |
| 8 - | 25 Nm |
| 9 - | Seal |
| q | Renew if damaged. |
| 10 - | 8 Nm + turn 90° further |
| q | Renew. |
| 11 - | Oil cooler |
| q | Remove and install → Chapter |
| 12 - | 8 Nm |
| q | Observe tightening procedure → Chapter. |
| 13 - | Top valve timing housing |
| q | Install with sealant -D 176 501 A1-. |
| q | Remove and install → Chapter |
| 14 - | 25 Nm |
| 15 - | Bottom valve timing housing |
| q | Install with sealant -D 176 501 A1-. |
| q | Remove and install → Chapter |
| 16 - | 5 Nm + turn 30° further |
| q | Renew. |
| q | Tighten with torque wrench -VAS 6583- |
| 17 - | 5 Nm + turn 30° further |
| q | Renew. |
| q | Tighten with torque wrench -VAS 6583- |
| 18 - | Drive chain |
| q | For oil pump. |
| q | Remove and install → Chapter |
| q | Before removing, mark direction of rotation (installation position). |
| 19 - | 150 Nm + turn 180° further. |
| q | Renew. |
| q | Remove and install crankshaft pulley → Chapter. |
| q | Contact surface for securing bolt must be free of oil and grease. |
| q | Oil threads before inserting. |
| q | Secure pulley against turning with counterhold tool -3415- and adapter -3415/2-. |
| q | The turning further angle can be measured with a commercial protractor. |
| 20 - | Belt pulley |
| q | Contact surfaces of pulley must be free of oil and grease. |
| q | Remove and install poly V-belt → Chapter. |
| q | Secure pulley against turning with counterhold tool -3415- and adapter -3415/2-. |
| 21 - | Washer |
| q | Diamond coated washer is clipped onto belt pulley |
| 22 - | Seal |
| q | Renew if damaged. |
| q | Remove and install → Chapter |
| 23 - | Cover |
| 24 - | 20 Nm + turn 90° further |
| q | Renew. |
| 25 - | Chain sprocket |
| q | For oil pump drive. |
| q | Lock with counterhold -T10172-. |
| 26 - | Oil pump |
| q | Renew complete only. |
| q | Remove and install → Chapter |
| 27 - | 13 Nm |
| q | Renew. |
| q | Loosen and tighten flywheel end bolts only with long-reach Allen key -T10058-. |
| 28 - | 10 Nm |
| 29 - | Oil level and oil temperature sender -G266- |
| q | Renew if damaged. |
| q | Checking: → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations. |
| 30 - | Seal |
| q | Renew. |
| 31 - | Oil drain plug, 30 Nm |
| q | With attached seal. |
| q | Renew. |

| q | Remove and install → Chapter |
| q | Clean sealing surface before fitting. |
| q | Install with sealant -D 176 600 A1-. |
| 33 - | 14 Nm + turn 90° further |
| q | Renew. |
