Checking hydraulic fluid level of power steering
Checking hydraulic fluid level of power steering
Vehicles with air filter on left in engine compartment
–  Remove battery and battery tray → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
Continuation for all vehicles
   
–  Unscrew cap -1- from motor/pump unit -2-.
–  Wipe dipstick with a clean cloth.
–  Screw on cap hand tight, then remove it again and check hydraulic fluid level.
The cap must be fully screwed on in order to obtain an accurate fluid level reading.
Do not run engine; set front wheels to straight-ahead position.

–  Check fluid level.
The fluid level must be between the lowest marking -arrow A- and the highest marking -arrow B- on the dipstick.
Fluid must be drained off if the level is above the mark -arrow B-.
If fluid is below specified level, hydraulic system should be checked for leaks → Chapter. It is not sufficient just to top up with fluid.
Do not re-use hydraulic fluid which has been drained off.
–  If there are no leaks in the hydraulic system, top up hydraulic fluid.
–  Screw cap hand tight onto reservoir of motor/pump unit.
